I did pretty good this race. It was my first 5k of the year. The race was a little long of what my dad got on his garmin. My goal is to beat 20 miuntes this year. I won my age group, and only males in the 16 to 18 year old age group beat me. No females beat me in the race. I placed 6 out of 195. I beat almost 190 people. I did OK, but I think I can do better. I enjoyed the race.

I have been running  a little but I just havent wrote it in the blog. I also have been running home from school on some days. I have not been running much in the winter because of basketball, and now I am slowly starting to run more, but I still do baseball, flag football and some basketball.

This was my first half marathon. I think I did pretty well. I beat most of the runners in the half marathon. I did not get the time I wanted which was 1:30. It was a lot of fun doing the race. This is the is the longest race or run I have ever done. In mile 9,10,11,12,13 I was getting really tired. My average mile was 7:28, I was trying to get a average of 7:00 minute mile but I did not. I haven't been training much except for doing other sports. I think I still need do more training so I can get my goal 1:30. My legs still are tired and sore. I ran with my new running shoes in the half marathon. They are pretty good running shoes. I did 11 minutes better than last years 1st place runner in my age group. I think they should give out better awards, because I only got a mdal that said Salt Lake Half Marathon, and said 2008 on the ribbon part. They also should take more time to announce the awards, they were rushing through because not a lot the people in the half marathon were there. I hope they will do the awards better next year. I want to try another half marathon soon. I love running.

Nice job! I saw you were featured in the paper today (SL Trib) and they had some very encouraging things to say. Keep up the good work.

Falcon, very very very impressive, I seen you come accross the finish line. You have major talent, great future of running ahead of your. 500 commando points for the age division win in the half marathon and being 150 out of 4,000. Awesome effort. By the way, your dad did great, but no commando points for him this race.

Falcon, I think you will get a jacket for first place, takes a couple of weeks, check with the race organizer.

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Apr 28, 2008 at 15:14:48

Congratulations on a good run. No hurry to run half marathons. Work on your speed right now, most of which will come from growing properly.

For your training you should probably jog about 4 miles a day 6 days a week throughout the year until you turn 12. This will help you develop decent endurance while allowing your body to grow.

From Falcon on Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 18:43:27

Thank you Sasha.

My Dad asks since I do alot of other sports each week how much should I change miles per day and number of days a week. How much less do I run for each hour of other sports I do? I do some like basketball and football which have lots of running and also baseball which doesnt have much running. Thanks

I did good this race, but I did not reach goal to break 20 minutes. I did better on this race than last years by about 25 seconds. The courses were different. To me last years course was a lot better. Thet did not give ribbons or medals out because they wanted everyone to feel particapation. I won a big bag gummy bears at the race. I like that race but there were too many sharp turns. My avereage pace was 6:58 seconds, which is OK. I hope to do better next year in this race.

I also won 3 field events. Im very happy I broke the state record for my age group in the javelin throwing 100 feet and 7 inches, got a PR in long jump and was ok in shotput but i did that after 3000 run. I couldnt do other races because Friday I had school and had 5k saturday

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, May 27, 2008 at 12:43:54

This is a very good starting speed level. For a comparison, at the age of early 12 (about 12 years and 2 months) after about 8 months of consistent training I ran 11:08 in my first 3000 race in Moscow on a track that was only 492 feet above sea level (I used the Course Tool to find that out).

I think your Magna 5 K was a combination of a bad day, and the fatigue from this race. You should be able to go under 20 this year without problems.

For your training - run at least 2 miles every day 6 days a week even if you are playing other sports but no more than 4. Easy pace, do not force it, run relaxed. Do it throughout the year. This will help you duplicate what Kenyan boys your age are doing by running to school and back and/or running field errands.

Diet-wise - eat healthy natural foods, stay away from processed junk. Do not try to rely on the young body's ability to rid itself of junk. It may work for a few years, but you'll end up with bad habits for the rest of your life at the very least.

Sleep-wise - make sure to get plenty. Going to bed early is the key + naps when you can.

i had trouble running with stomach ake and allergy, but i think I did OK, last year 21:51 so I improved 43 seconds. The race is fast with alot of downhill to start. A big rv pulled off the road and got in front of me i had to run around it. i won my age group. this was my 2nd meet in a row but i have not done any training this year as i have too many other sports. Last week was baseball on most days plus i had choir concerts Maybe if i cn train I will do better and beat 20 minutes

I had a track meet. My first event was 1500m run. I did pretty well. I did not get my goal but I got my PR, at 5:42. Then right after the event with a couple minutes of rest I had the 80m hurdles. This was my first time ever doing this event. I did OK. I placed second in my age group at 18.52 Then I decided to go do some mini javelin throws. I threw 4 but they were not that good. I had to go straight to the 200m dash. I placed third in my age group. at 33.42 I decided to just do that for fun as Im not a sprinter. Then I went over there to fiinish my 2 throws, and I end up doing better than before with the distance of 90ft and a 3rd of an inch for 2nd place. Then I go do my last event long jump. I did pretty well and won. I did not get my goal but I got my PR of 12 feet 11 and half inch. I missed my goal by half an inch.

My dad and I went to bridal vale falls to do some running. We ran a couple miles. My legs were very sore from my track meet. We also hiked to the base of the waterfall.

Then I went to baseball which I was OK.

im behind in my racereports as I have been veryvery busy. I have had 5 track meets in 1 week. I like to run but wish they didnot have them all at the same time. my dad said that the race oreganisers dont talk enough to each other or work things out all the timeI dont remember the dates of all races or the exact time of less than seconds.

Race 1:we drove all the way to ceeder city, my dad said it cost over $75 in gas. I won 2 gold and 2 silver. I got gold in hurdles, I think about 17.5 Next I did 800, I got 2nd, I think 2:52 Then high jump, I got 2nd at 4 feet 1. I could have done better and won but I had to hurry on jumps because it was a hour late and i hadd 3000 meterI got to 3000 late it had already started as we did not hear announcement You could not hear it at high jump pit. I still won gold at 12:20It was very hot day to run

Race2: I think this was on Wednesday. I took it easy and only did short races. I dont know my times as county coach doesnt tell you until you get ribbons. I won my heats 100 meters and hurdles. I tried discus for fun for first time and through over 50 feet. I aslo ran in 4 by 100 relay but they would not let us pick team. I got slow kids. I tried hard and ran fast at anchor butcouldnot catch other team

Race3: this was on thursdays at BYU for state championship. i like running at byu track today was pentafflon. i only lost to older kid by 15 points. I got over 1500 points. I won 3 of the 5 events. I got PR in 4 ofn the 5. They are hurdle 17.3, high jump 4 feet 3and half, shot put 23 feet 8, and the 1500 meter 5:28. Other was long jump at 12 feet 11. That day was very long and hot and i got tired but I wonn a silvermedal

race4:this was at byu for state championship. I did my events as I had another meet today. I got 3 gold and 1 silver I got revenge and won long jump with PR 13 feet 7 and 1/2. I only jumped until I beat every one in high jump to win and savemy energee. It was hard to do as they were late and I had to do all my events about same time. I won 3000 but they goofed up and stopped us at 6 and one half laps instead of 7 and one half. My dad said I would have been around 12 minutes ormaybe less. Then i got second in javelin I was tired after running the 3000and it was very very hot so I lost my state record in that for now but I know I will get it back next year. I qualified for all 4 events and pentafalon to got to regional in arizona but we cant go as dad doesnot have money and said it is to hot to go there

race5:this was today at orem for Hershey state championship. I did not do well but still got 2 PR and placed in all but will not gett to go to national chamionship in pennsilvaneya. I got pr in 800 running at 2:44 and in softball throw 136 feet. i was slow and did not run good in 100 meter but imnot a sprinter

I also went to track practice and basketball practice and baseball practice. This week I have basketball camp. my dad has been busy and not run much. this is a long report i hope you got to read it

Dads editorial - I dont think you ran 8 miles at 41 seconds per mile, that must be your total miles of your races. Also dad doesnt get to run much as he his too busy being your chauffeur! But great job son, alot of PRs and medals. I think you have improved in almost everything from 100 to 3000, its neat to see you try so many events

ran a good race and won my age group at 20:34. Dont know overall place. loop race with shade because sun wasnt up, i wish more races would start at 7:00. My dad ran too

Then I went to county track championship. I did not do long race becuase I already ran a 5K. I tried differnet things, I am the County champion in long jump with a PR of 13 feet 9 and 1/2 inch. I anchorred my 4 x 400 relay team to first for championship too. Im not a sprinter but won my heat of 200 meter and got 5th place, I also threw the discus and got 5th place

Now im gioing to basketball

I have not been on blog but Ialso won my age at July 4 Murray 5k in 21 minute something. I hope this year to win the cicuit long distance running for my age.

I havent done much running practice but ran twice with Utah project team on trails and a little at track practice. I finished baseball, today is last day for track and basketball. Maybe I can improve since I will only run now for while

Ran today in the 5k at Bremerton. I ran a good race today. I got a PR which made me happy. I broke 20 minutes

The course was OK except that you had to do 3 laps instead of a loop. The Navy recruits from the navy base were there. I would have done better but with the laps the slow people got in the way and the biggest problem was that on last lap i had to pass the group of navy guys and there was about 100 of them. I think I could have gotten 19:50 at least still i were 16th of 179 runners

I also had to race again against high school kids in my age group which I dont think is fair as they are much older and run on their high school team. but I know I will beat them someday. They didnt give much for prizes just ribbons

afterwards my dad and I went to the docks and had a hotdog and blackberry desert and saw a navy destroyer ship

Another awesome race for Falcon! I don't think that is right to have such a big range for the age division! It sounds like you and your dad had a great day!

I didnt run as fast, it was all flat and I like hills better. it was also down and back same way which is more boring. I won a medal. my dad liked race as it only cost $3.00. During week I run with older kids but only have time to list miles and not blog

It was mainly flat with a little uphill i think I ran a good race and my training has helped. I was the youngest person in the race.

Then I went to the pepsi punt kick and pass contest. i surprized my dad I won my age group but dont play on football team. i get to go to regional championship now for football

It is fun race as you jump over hay bayles,  and run up wood stairs and run through a tunnel where there was a world war 2 gun battery. It is through campground, in forest and above the ocean by port angeles. After the race my dad and I went to see the tide pools. I also got a Salt Creek running shirt. I need to get closer to my HS competition and my goal.

I watched the middle school race they wont let me run because im in sixth grade and it is for 7 and 8 grade. So the coach let me run the course on my own after the race and my dad timed me. I goofed up on first try, ran a mile and went wrong way so I had to try again. this time I ran the right way and finished the race. Even with no one to run with and being tired from already running a mile my time was the 2nd best. Only adrian a fast 8th grader who is 3 years older than me would have beat me and he is one of the best in Washington. There were 3 schools. i was mad for running wrong the first time so that helped me run fast the next time. My dad says we need to measure the course as this is a fast time but the coach said it is 1.85 miles

i just checked fastblog says that is 5:19 per mile so my dad is probably right it must be a shorter distance so we will run again sometime and measure with my dads garmin

I am updating this, the middle school coach said it is 1.8 miles and he measured it twice. that would be 5:28 miles but my Dad thinks we should someday measure it

Kim i think I know Garebear. is he in sixth grade too? Let me know and I will check. Does he run? you shouldd come to Sequim and visit it is a nice place to run

Actually our Garebear is 25 years old. However, he has a handicap that makes him seem more like a child. He is awesome! He runs for the Sequim Orcas. They are a special olympic team. If you ever see them ask for Garebear and say hi! He always loves a new friend!

Luckily rain stopped but race was slippery. I slipped at beginning of race. It had a stairs, a steep hill and ran by a lake. I also joined a new running team they are called the Federal way flyers. I will run for them at meets but cant go to practices as we had to drive 3 hours to get to race. On way back my dad and i stopped and played football at one park and walked along beach at another park. The next day i went to a marine museum, got second place in a soccer contest, watched hydroplane race and practiced basketball

this is my last report and race. It was the national championship and it was in Virginia. There were about 300 kids in the race and they are the fastest kids in america. The race was mainly on a big trail through flat grass. i was disappointed that there werent any hills as I do better on them and beat more runners. The weather was OK, my dad said in upper 30 degree temperature, I ran for my Federal Way team, but there was only 3 of us so we did not have a full team. the others were chicken to come. The start of the race is fast and crowded. I got a Ok start. During the race I felt good and pushed it as much as I could. i passed some kids and tried to gap them to break their spirit. i tried to run tangents but it was hard to do as it was crowded. Near the finish I tried to kick with all I had even though i felt some pain. I passed several kids at the end. I beat over 200 kids. This was probably a PR for me, but I had one race with faster time but my dad doesnt think that was a full 3k. I was the top runner for my team. I also beat 5 of the 6 runners from my old Utah team. However there were many fast runners. You had to be faster than 10:40 to be all american. I hope to do that next year as I will still be a midget. My dad said if i was less than 4 months younger I still would have been a bantam and would have gotten fifth or sixth place.

Next year i need to get a faster start to get out of the crowded runners and still get my finish better to catch more runners. My goals for next year are to get all american and break 11 minutes. I plan to run more this winter than I did before but i can only run a little becuase of basketball. My dad bought me a cross country sweat shirt and a steve Prefontaine tshirt. Then we went to mcdondalds we also went to a nature park and some civil war battle fields. Next year nationals will be in Reno
